Tim Grover founded Attack Athletics in 1989. But the real story began even before that, when Tim became interested in Body Mechanics and Sports Performance. In the early 1980s, sport specific training and performance work was almost unheard of. Tim was a freshman at University of Illinois Chicago, and was a member of the men’s basketball team. Sports were his passion, so the obvious choice of a major was Kineisiology. He cruised through the program, playing basketball for the Illinois Flames and working on his own performance through exercise, weight lifting, and drills to improve his skills.

Tim continued with his studies and received his MS in Exercise Science from UIC in 1985. Tim wrote his thesis on the effects of strength training on selected basketball skills. He knew that he wanted to work with athletes. He knew that he had developed a way to make them stronger and more effective, less prone to injury or burnout.

In 1989 the newspapers reported that Michael Jordan was tired of getting knocked around on the court, and wanted to get stronger for the next season. Dr. John Hefferon, the NBA Team Physician at the time, had heard of Tim and thought he and Michael might be a good fit. He arranged a meeting for the two of them.

Michael agreed to give Tim a try for a few weeks. The match was a great success. Tim’s knowledge of basketball coupled with his background in sports specific training was just what Michael needed to become better. This lead to an edge on the court. The weeks turned into months and soon Tim resigned from all other training to work exclusively with Michael.Word traveled fast among professional athletes that Michael’s trainer had really made a difference in his physique and his game. Player after player contacted Tim in hopes that he would be able to work with them. Tim traveled with Michael during the basketball season and began training many other athletes during the basketball off-season. Today Tim’s list of elite clients reads like a Who’s Who in the NBA. Tim has also expanded his business to include notable professional football and baseball players.

Tim remains busy year round. He has authored and published Jump Attack, a training guide. He lectures, develops training aids and products, and rehabilitates athletes both post injury and post surgery. Many of the leagues top agents, managers and coaches call on Tim for his analysis of players potential and progress. His pre draft program attracts much of the great talent entering the NBA draft. He also remains, as he always will, on call for Mr. Jordan.

Attack Athletics is for athletes who understand that sacrifice and hard work will make them stronger competitors. There is always room for improvement, even for the very best athletes in the world. This philosophy is echoed in the no nonsense atmosphere at Attack Athletics. Tim’s clients work and train hard and achieve great results.
